25th Sept 2011 U9 Bears v Stones

After a dynamic start to the season the Bears took to the field full of confidence last Sunday to face a much improved Stones side.
The first half was a toughly fought encounter with both sides battling hard for possession. Although the Bears had more attacks, a clear cut opportunity would not present itself and by the time Alfie had made a brave save at the feet of the Stones striker, the spectators were begining to become more tense.

Both teams had the opportunity to score in the first half, with goal mouth scrambles, but the ball just would not drop favourably.

Into the second half and the wind picked up allowing the Stones keeper to kick the ball into the Bears penalty area. The Stones striker leapt on his chance and left the Bears keeper no chance.

However, The Bears continued to press for an equaliser and good chances fell to both Cameron and Ben but they just couldn’t finish them. Roman continued to break up play with some fantastic challenges, feeding Milo who jinxed down the wing with both Ben and Patrick supporting, but the spirited Stones side had lots of players back defending and blocked all attempts.

With the game approaching the finish The Bears threw everyone forward, but another long kick by the keeper saw an excellent finish by the Stones striker and the whistle blew.

A two nil loss – but some great team spirit and with more effort like that the Bears will continue to improve.

Well done boys and bad luck this weekend. A two week break now follows.

18th Sept 2011 – Redwing 0 – Perry St U9B 5

The season started last Sunday 18th September with much anticipation – A tricky visit to local rivals Redwing awaited the new Bears and is was difficult to see who was more nervous; the players, the parents or the coach.

Due to changes in the Redwing side, a last minute tactical switch saw the confused Bears fat coach scratching his head as the game began.

The nerves were soon to put to one side as the Bears started to fly in on tackles, run into space and call each other for the ball – it was like watching a mix of the All Blacks and Barcelona. Every player backed the other one up and give and go’s had the Redwing players running round in circles.

After some impressive defensive work from Jake and Roman, also known as little & large,(and some great kicks from Alfie ‘ the cat’) – the pressure began to build on a hard working Redwing side.

From a corner Patrick ‘Rooney’ smashed the ball (on a full volley) from the edge of the box into the roof of the net – an early contender for goal of the season.
This was followed by some free flowing football and more goals from ‘Milo’, Eddie and Ben. – By the time Milo added his second and the Bears fifth, we had seen some real team work from everyone. Alfie at the back looked solid all the way through to Cameron chasing down every ball.

Well done lads – a great effort!
