Perry St U14A secured promotion back to the top division with an excellent all round display against 3rd place Weald Bassett. Perry Street went 1-0 up after 5 mins with an excellent lob from outside the box from Tony Stevens who started up front with Calum White. With the back line well marshalled by Marcus in goal, Weald found it difficult to create any real goal scoring opportunities and Marcus easily cleared the occasional long ball through to him. Towards the end of the first half a really good tackle by Jack Harwood playing at right back near the half way line, who then played a neat through ball between defenders through to Alfie Roake who made an excellent run from midfield to get onto the end of the ball. Just as Alfie looked to slot the ball home, the Weald keeper upended him to give away a penalty which was superbly put away in the bottom left corner by Alfie to make it 2-0.
A good half time team talk and the boys went straight at Weald after the break with all the play being in the Weald half, before long 2 excellent strikes by Olly Stewart and Tyler Gray from outside the box made it 4-0 with 20 mins to play. 2 further goals from Tommy Underwood and again Olly Stewart to make 6-0 and Perry St were now coasting and playing some excellent football, one move in particular that involved Adam De Cruz winning the ball near our corner flag that was then passed through 5 players with one/two touch passing until the ball was delivered inside the Weald 6 yard box for an easy tap in (which was missed!) was the move of the day and a testament to the good work put into recent training sessions.
Marcus came out of goal for the last 15 mins to try and get on the score sheet without luck. With several easy chances missed the only criticism is that our finishing still was not up to standard, but all-round an excellent performance from the boys and another clean sheet means we have conceded just 10 goals in the last 14 league matches.
The boys are all now looking forward to our French end of season tour in June and next season in the top flight again.
MOM Tony Stevens – a constant lively threat both up front and on the wing.
An accomplished performance form Perry St against an Elite Team that has been unbeaten for 7 games for Perry St to go 2nd in the league.
Perry St started the game positively and had 3 chances in the first 5 mins. Perry Street were 3 up in the first half from excellent goals from a headed Charlie Simpson goal,a long range effort from Tony Stevens and a Josh White tap in, Perry St eased off in second half with just a well struck solo goal from Tyler Gray for a comfortable win against a decent Elite team to make score 4-0. hard to pick out man of the match as a good overall team performance.
