2010 Perry Street Fun Day

The Perry Street FC Fun Day was held at Barleylands Farm in the glorious sunshine on Sunday. There were bouncy castles for the younger children and a number of football related fun activities for all age groups. The parents brought over picnics and drinks and the club complimented this by serving ice cold drinks and running a BBQ selling hot dogs and burgers with all the trimmings.

This is an annual event organised by the club for the club only and helps all teams to unite as a single community within Billericay. The football competitions held on the day are competitive encompassing children from a cross section of age groups. The also brings the players closer together in a single club rather than individual teams. Each age group were also presented with end of season trophies including special trophies in various categories. The trophies were all supplied by our partner All4Sports from South Ockendon.

The events main organiser was Denis Simpson (pictured right) with fantastic support from so many parents and managers which all helped make the day a huge success, both in terms of enjoyment for the children and also from a financial aspect. Denis’s 2 assistants, Andy Picton and Chris Meredith (pictured above left) both deserve a special mention for their efforts beforehand and on the day to help make things run smoothly. This was by no means a 3 man show though as there are a long list of invaluable helpers who raked fields, marked out pitches, put up goal posts, ran teams on the day and many other activities. Finally, it must be emphasised that the children had a super day and a special thanks to all the parents who soaked up the sunshine complimented by the odd Pimms, in some places, which I was lucky enough to sample!

Also a final mention for Stuart McMeekin’s BBQ exploits, serving hot food all day supported by family and friends. The man is a masterchef in the making.

And what did I do all day…. well I arrived there at 10:30 just as the marquee was blown over and Andy Picton was holding on by one hand (wish I had the camera ready and could have got a shot of him sailing over the trees hanging on!!), I then relocated the refreshments area with Mr Picton to a shady area under a huge tree, set up some tables and some music, sorted the trophies out, served drinks most of the day and chatted, mingled with the managers and parents, watched some footy, took some music, tookl some photographs, helped clear up and left about 6:15pm I would not have wanted it any other way and have already discussed some ideas on how we can improve for next year!!!
